Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) Excision

Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) Excision surgery may be recommended if you have symptomatic ACJ Arthritis. It involves removing a small portion of the lateral clavicle (outer aspect) to remove inflamed tissue and create more space.

Benefits of Surgery

Targeted Pain Relief

By creating space in the joint and removing the inflamed joint, the surgery directly alleviates the localised pain and tenderness.

Restore Comfortable Movement

With the source of friction removed, you'll experience improved comfort and less stiffness when moving your arm across your body or lifting, making daily activities easier.

Minimally Invasive Option

Often performed arthroscopically, this procedure allows for quicker recovery times and smaller incisions compared to traditional open surgery.

Procedure Information

Dr Richmond has sub-specialist expertise in Shoulder Surgery.

Following a thorough assessment, including physical examination, MRI, and consideration of your activity level – surgery may be recommended.

ACJ excision is typically performed arthroscopically (minimally invasive keyhole surgery).
